Superlatives from the Adidas Gauntlet thus far

Best Scorer: Keon Johnson (EAB)

This was a tough one to pick from with the number of big-time scorers there are throughout the Adidas Gauntlet. The EAB standout has shown that he can score in a variety of ways this AAU season. Johnson is excellent at getting to the basket with his quick burst and strong build. This has always been part of his game, but he’s added a consistent jump shot to his game. Johnson can score at will and has lived up to expectations this season.

Best Playmaker: Andre Curbelo (NY Jayhawks)

NY Jayhawks point guard Andre Curbelo has some of the best ball skills out of anyone throughout the country. He utilizes this by getting by defenders and creating for himself and teammates. With his elite court vision and a knack for scoring the ball, there isn’t just one way to guard him. There is no denying that Curbelo was the favorite to become the best playmaker after Dallas and he has lived up to it.

Best Motor: Tari Eason (ML20 Enforcers)

ML20 Enforcers power forward Tari Eason has had a great start to the AAU season. Eason had a good reputation coming into this year but has definitely helped himself in the early part of the year. He has big-time rebounding ability, is great in the open floor and is an elite defender. To put it simply, Eason is in multiple facets of the game. He leaves it all out on the floor on both ends of the ball.

Young Phenom: Marquise Rice (Team Wall)

Class of 2022 Team Wall (NC) forward Marquise Rice is the Adidas Gauntlet’s young Phenom. Rice is one of the best prospects in his class and for good reason. His is physically advanced for his age, but he scores the ball in more ways than just imposing his will physically. Rice is ESPN’s 10th ranked prospect in the 2022 class and could climb this list.

Mr. Potential: Evan Mobley (Compton Magic)

The number one ranked prospect in the 2020 class Evan Mobley is Mr. Potential. Mobley is one of the most well-rounded players with his athleticism and skill set, but the scary part about Mobley’s game is that he still has so much more room to grow. He shows incredible flashes of his play on the perimeter and is exploring different parts of his game.

Sniper: Bowen Born (Iowa Barnstormers)

Iowa Barnstormers has had their fair share of shooters through the years and Bowen Born is yet another sniper to come through their program. Born leads the Barnstormers with 14.3 points per game and is shooting 47 percent from three. From off the catch to shooting off the bounce, Born is one of the most consistent shooters in the country.
