Highlighting an eventful Saturday at Adidas DC

WASHINGTON, DC – Adidas is in DC this weekend for its regional qualifier, and Prep Circuit been in the gym covering the tournament. Here is a rundown from a busy Saturday.

Top Performers:

Marcus Boykin | 6’0 2020 G | Team Wall

Marcus Boykin is a crafty left-handed guard who scores it well from all three levels. He can really get it going from long range if able to set his feet.

JayShaun Freeman | 6’0 2020 G | Team BBC

JayShaun Freeman scored in bunches and in a variety of ways for Team BBC. He has a wide arsenal of go-to moves which were all on display.

Josh Hall | 6’8 2020 F | Team Loaded NC

At 6-foot-8 with good length, Josh Hall is a skilled wing who can score effortlessly on the perimeter. Hall is a disruptive presence at the rim who is adept at blocking and altering shots, and can definitely switch out onto guards on the perimeter when engaged.

Saveon Jackson | 6’0 2021 G | New World

Saveon Jackson is a downhill-type guard who excels on both ends of the floor. Jackson is a fierce competitor who defends aggressively on the ball. He is strong enough to win most 50/50 balls and is a very crafty finisher who seeks contact at the rim.

Jamel Melvin | 6’9 2020 C | DC Thunder

It didn’t take long to determine that Jamel Melvin was in the conversation for best shot blocker in DC this weekend. The long-armed 6-foot-9 post prospect has awesome timing and must also be accounted for on the offensive glass.

Kadary Richmond | 6’5 2020 G | Mass Rivals

One thing that stands out about Kadary Richmond is his use of ball-fakes to keep the defense off balance. He’s an exceptional playmaker on both ends of the floor with quick reactions and great feel.

Top Game: DC Thunder vs. Team BBC

This was a local matchup that did not disappoint. Guys like Milton Matthews, JayShaun Freeman, David N’Guessan, and Malcolm Alexander had their respective moments in what would ultimately come down to the final seconds in which DC Thunder was able to pull out a two-point win.

Clutch Performer:

Jamal Barnes | 6’4 2020 G | DC Thunder

With 1.6 seconds remaining on the clock and the score tied vs. Team BBC, Jamal Barnes stepped up to the line and calmly sank two free throws.

Performance of the Day:

Milton Matthews | 6’2 2020 G | DC Thunder

Milton Matthews got going and the crowd hit a frenzy during his performance vs. Team BBC. The smooth southpaw can make it rain from long range and doesn’t need much time to get his shot off.
