Ladera Ranch, Calif. (CA) — With the Gauntlet Finale here, every team is fighting to stay alive game after game which means we are getting the very best performances out of teams to keep their summer alive. One team earned ‘Team of the Day’ for day one due to their collective team play and turn around from last weekend at the Adidas Summer Championships.

D1 Minnesota suffered a surprising loss in Hoover, Alabama last weekend against Garner Road Basketball Club but instantly bounced back strong at the Gauntlet Finale in their first matchup against Team Harden (AZ) . Still without 6’11” forward, Dawson Garcia, the team looked to be clicking on all cylinders in this one.

2020 guard, Kerwin Walton, had one of the best weekends at the Summer Championships and instantly carried it over today. He continues to prove that he is one of the best off-ball players on the Adidas circuit by constantly moving which opens up passing and driving lanes for his teammates since he has been lights out shooting from deep. He contributed 18 points in their win with 15 of them coming from three.

Walton’s play opened up a lot of the game for Ben Carlson, another player who has been playing lights out. Carlson had himself a game as well against Team Harden dropping 17 and being a force all over the floor. Austin Andrews found himself in double figures as well in the runaway win with 11 points.

D1 Minnesota’s offensive play was stellar from their whole squad, they shot 60% from the field as a team. They out-rebounded Team Harden 25 to 16 which gave them 9 second chance opportunities on offense. The scoring came from everywhere mostly due to the team’s willingness to share the ball as they totaled 16 assists with 0 turnovers.

D1 Minnesota looked like the team to beat on day one and with the intensity only getting higher, they will have a stiff matchup in Exum Elite to start day two.
